However , the Sunrise Highway-Medford Avenue intersection showed a dramatic drop in the number of accidents , from 51 in 1977 to 27 in 1 978 In the Mastic-Shirley area the in tersection at William Floyd Pkwy . an; Montauk Hwy. comes in 13th with 34 ac cidents . up more than 50 percent. The installation of a signal , however , said Pagel , is in itself a traffic hazard. Reports of right angle accidents change to rear \bumping \ accidents . Patcnogue Village Trustee and Police Commissioner John Ta bone listened to the recital of the six village locations of high accident incidence and explained that most of them were intersections where there was a 'jog. ' \On North Ocean and Oak Street we ' gentled' the corner but the jog is so severe the only real solution is tearing dow n buildings. \ And that, he continued , is not really much of a solution. \I wish our forefathers had squared off the streets , \ he said with a smile. When the youngster , nicknamed \J.R. \ claps , so does Jill . Unlike most sibling relations where the older child teaches the younger one , Jill learn s from her brother. Today she is learning to do things she used to know how to do. It will be a year tomorrow since Jill Bradford awoke from a five-week coma , unable to move or talk. As she jauntily runs across the grassy yard in Medford , smiling and play ing with her brother, her mother , Mickey , can only describe the sight as a \ miracle. \ Jill was struck with encephalitis last July. The days since then have been lon<* , weary ones for Mickey and Russell Bradford. But , her mother said , \We won 't give up. \ They still make weekly tri ps to Wantagh for Jill' s physical therapy . And , when the family is at home , Jill is kept busy out-of- dnnrc mpvina all fha flmn Even though their spirit has not run dry, the Bradford' s finances have , she said. When she learned that the family medical insurance did not cover much-needed speech therapy for Jill , Mrs. Bradford , \ pallpH PVflrvnn o T r» r»nlr« fhinlr ~t \ — — .~-^v»« * , £ vOUiU lllllin \JL .
